Accessible Trick or Treating

Mariska Vergeer has been a member of the North Dumfries Kiwanis Club since the beginning.

Her and her family moved to North Dumfries in 1987 and are currently living in Roseville.

Mariska has been volunteering with children for a long time, assisting with programs at the schools and her kids activities.

Becoming a Kiwanis member was a normal continuation of her desire to help out and because she is also a Realtor with RE/MAX Icon Realty, she wanted to become involved with the Treat Accessibly Program.

RE/MAX has been part of this program since 2020 and their goal is to make Trick or Treating accessible for as many children as possible. For children with mobility issues and children with social anxiety, it is often a challenge and sometimes impossible to go up a driveway and knock on a stranger's door. This program aims to overcome these hurdles by having people handing out treats at street level (at the end of the driveway) instead of their front doors. Participants will place a small sign at their property a week or two before Halloween so families can recognize the location and plan out a route.-

If you would like to get a sign and bring a smile to a child's face and bring joy to families when they can enjoy the Trick or Treat activity together as a family, then please reach out to Mariska at 226-791-1670 and she will be happy to bring you a sign.

The signs are also available for pick up at The Ridge Social Eatery  in Roseville.
